Lipa City – The glorious days of Lipa during the 1800s brought about by the coffee boom gave rise to the “illustrado” class whom have become the patron of the arts that flourished during that time. The grandeur of Lipa has long gone, but Lipeños have not lost their taste for the finer things in life and their love for the arts.  Today, as art schools and art groups begin to grow in the city and the Batangas Province, arts and culture continue to flourish through a new generation of artists.

As My City, My SM, My Art continues its cultural journey around the Philippines, it makes a stop at SM City Lipa on July 13, Thursday, highlighting the works of Jonathan Olazo, an abstract expressionist, who is inspired by his father- the Master Artist Romulo Olazo.  It will also highlight the works of Paulina Luz Sotto, granddaughter of National Artist Arturo Luz, and great great granddaughter of Segunda Katigbak-Luz.

The event will also showcase the works of father and son Jun and Bo Cumagun; Chito Segismundo; Marichu Liwag Carstensen. The art groups which are starting to flourish in the province will also be given recognition like the Grupo Sining Batangueño, Lipeño Youth Art Club and Thema Arts Society.

A celebration of Philippine visual arts – painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and filmmaking, My City, My SM, My Art is a joint project of SM, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Shell Companies of the Philippines, and the Philippine Star with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Centerstage Production.

My City, My SM, My Art brings art and people together showcasing the works of masters, modernists, and millennials around the SM Supermalls.  Advocating art for all, the team works with communities to mount exhibits, workshops, and contests in key cities around the Philippines.
