Teriyaki Boy and Sizzlin’ Steak are established brands in the restaurant industry. The former is known for offering value-for-money Japanese food and the latter is popular for its steaks that don’t require you to spend your half month’s salary.

Sizzlin’ Steak opened in SM City Lipa in April of 2016. It’s been a meat lover’s haven since then, serving its best-sellers like pork steak, ribeye steak, and my own personal favorite – Beef Belly Rice.

They closed for renovation a few months ago, promising an exciting development. Now, we know what this development is – a combination store with Teriyaki Boy.

About Teriyaki Boy and Sizzlin’ Steak

Both restaurants are under the Max’s Group of Restaurants so that alone says a lot considering that this is the biggest casual dining restaurant company in the country that boasts of names like Max’s Restaurant, Yellow Cab, Pancake House, Krispy Kreme, Dencio’s and more.

With Teriyaki Boy offering Japanese food and Sizzlin’ Steak offering steak dishes, it’s quite obvious that they’re two different restaurants catering to different markets. This is why at first glance, a combination store doesn’t make sense, until you realize that it’s a genius move considering the fact that their customers are usually groups with people of different cravings.

When was the last time that all members of a group craved for something unanimously? One person could be craving for steak, while another one is craving for ramen. Someone else craving for tuna makes it harder to decide which restaurant to go to.

That problem is solved by the Teriyaki Boy and Sizzlin’ Steak Combination Store at SM City Lipa. It’s the 4th combination store of the group and the first in the Southern Luzon area.

Teriyaki Boy and Sizzlin’ Steak Combination Store

As the Hello Lipa team found out, we should be very happy that the group trusted Lipa City with this concept. We had one of our best meals ever!

Add Some Sizzle into Your Life with the Offerings of Sizzlin’ Steak

My wife and I are regulars at Sizzlin’ Steak. I love my protein, and Sizzlin’ Steak SM City Lipa is one of my go-to places to get it.

I always get the Beef Belly Rice before so it’s my first time to try some of the dishes that they served us.

We started with the Cheese Dip with Nachos (PHP 130).

It arrived with the cheese still sizzling. This is the perfect appetizer because it excites 3 senses – sight, hearing and taste. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself finishing the whole thing.

We tried the Platter Meal for 2. It’s priced at PHP 539. You get to choose 2 from Sizzlin’ Tuna Belly, Pork Steak, Chicken Steak and Burger Steak. You also get veggies, 2 plain rice, 2 egg drop soup and 2 single serve iced tea.

Platter Meal for 2 or one hungry me.

As you can see, we went for the surf and turf combination of Sizzlin’ Tuna Belly and the Pork Steak. The tuna belly tasted fresh and was juicy as is how tuna bellies should be. The star of this combination was the pork steak. It was an inch thick and was cooked perfectly. It’s surprisingly tender.

Speaking of tender, we also tried the Australian Marbled Steak (PHP 685).

I was drooling when this was placed on our table. I can imagine the marbling on this nice piece of steak, because it seemed juicy, and that was confirmed as soon as I took my first bite. It definitely has a high marbling score.

It melts in your mouth. I was pretty surprised when I found out that it’s only PHP 685. I wouldn’t have been surprised if this was priced closer to PHP 1,000. The steak is already seasoned well, but feel free to spread the herbed butter around for  a more heavenly taste. Keto dieters, rejoice!

This experience reminded me why Sizzlin’ Steak is, and will remain to be, a favorite of ours.

Welcome to Teriyaki Boy!

We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Teriyaki Boy to Lipa City, but it seems that they’re the ones with a welcome gift as they present their value-for-money Japanese dishes.

A good way to start a Japanese meal is with gyoza (PHP 280 for 10 pieces).

Their gyoza is cooked as it’s supposed to be – perfectly steamed before giving one side a perfect sear. It’s meaty and tasty. You’d be popping it in your mouth as if it’s popcorn.

We also tried the Tofu Steak (PHP 180).

A great new way to enjoy tofu!

The tofu complemented the beef strips well. The teriyaki sauce is perfect for this appetizer.

There’s also the Ebi Tempura (PHP 295 for 5 pieces).

One for you, two for me. Notice a trend?

Big prawns deep fried to perfection? You can’t ask for more from an Ebi Tempura, but Teriyaki Boy one-upped it with their special tempura sauce.

We were also served the Spicy Seafood Roll with shrimp on the two end rolls (PHP 245 for 8 pieces).

It’s not really grab-a-pitcher-of-milk spicy. There’s just enough of a kick of spice to level up the already flavorful rolls. Make sure to grab one of the two end rolls!

Now for the main event, we were served the Kazoku Family Set (PHP 799).

This feast of Teriyaki Boy Chicken, Tonkatsu or Beef Teppanyaki, 2 Yasai Itame (a vegetable dish), 4 Japanese rice, and 4 single serve iced tea is exactly that – a feast. It’s good enough for 4 hungry people.

The Teriyaki Boy Chicken is obviously a star dish, and it shines like the brightest star in the night with how savory it is. The juicy pork of the Tonkatsu is enveloped in crunchy breading and will make you forget about the cabbage salad that it comes with as you’ll be reaching for a cup or two of the rice. The Yasai Itame is supposed to be a side dish, but it’s something that I’d eat if I want something light and healthy for a meal.

You can definitely feel the cold breeze on most days, which means that you should warm your tummy with a hot bowl of ramen. We tried the Miso Butter Ramen (PHP 245).

I love miso so I found myself sipping the broth with gusto.

The team also had the chance to try the Chashu Ramen Shoyu (PHP 245).

I’m already fuller than full at this point so I listed it down under “What I’ll Try Next Time” but judging from the fact that I saw an empty bowl once our team was done with it, it seems that I have to try it ASAP.

We sipped on the Green Tea Milk Shake (PHP 130) in between bites of these dishes.

Rich and refreshing!

For dessert, we tried the Turtle Cheesecake (PHP 196).

As soft and fluffy as cotton.

There’s something wrong with this dessert. There’s no option to get a whole 8 inch cake! We loved it!

Teriyaki Boy and Sizzlin’ Steak: A New Favorite in Lipa

Sizzlin’ Steak would have to share the “favorite” tag with Teriyaki Boy as we really enjoyed the dishes we tried in both restaurants. Fortunately, they’re in one combination store, so we can simply go there, sit anywhere, choose from 2 menus, and enjoy what we’ve been craving for.
