Mary Mediatrix Medical Center houses the first and only FibroScan in Southern Luzon. It is a specialized ultrasound machine for the liver that is rapid, painless, and completely non-invasive. This machine assesses liver stiffness or damage and the results are expressed in decibels per meter (dB/m) and kilopascals (kPa). The amount of dB/m and kPa is indicative to what level of fatty change and scarring in the live, respectively.
The FibroScan is particularly helpful for patients with liver problems, such as fatty liver or diabetes. Even for those without liver problems, this machine is useful for those who want to monitor their liver health. Once your results come in, your doctor will give you a personalized reading of your results, what they mean, and if you need to make any lifestyle changes or dietary improvements.
