Lipa City – The winners of the recently concluded “Shop and Make Art” arts and crafts contest were awarded and presented to the shoppers of SM Lipa last June 20, Monday at the Events Center of SM City Lipa during the city’s 69th Founding Anniversary.
First placer Romark Joseph R. Laco of Lipa City whose work also won the People’s Choice award got a total winning prize of 35,000 pesos worth of SM Gift certificates. His rendition of “Art of Saving the Environment” is a symbolism of pseudo-abstract, using acrylic spray paint and seeds on foam board.
Second placer Danilo Dimasaca is a sea farer and resides at Balete, Batangas. With the theme “The Art of shopping” his work is characterized by a mosaic of glittery beads, sequins, feathers and other re-purposed items. As Mr. Dimasaca is currently on his new sea assignment, his daughter Krista Kayla Dimasaca accepted the prize and award on his behalf which amounted to 15,000 pesos worth of SM Gift Certificates.
Third place winner is Patricia Camille Goli of Malabon City. Also with the theme “The Art of Saving the Environment” Camille used different kinds of seeds and grains to promote “sowing seeds towards a greener future”. She received 10,000 pesos worth of SM gift certificates.
The works of Jomar, Danilo and Camille were among the 121 art entries which were judged last June 15 by well-known local visual artists of Lipa City like painter and designer Dr. Marichu Liwag Carstensen, celebrated photographer Chito Seguismundo and self-taught painter William Abao. The criteria for judging includes Creativity 50% (Expression, Use of Color/Technique, Variety of Materials); Originality 25% (Description, Approach, Results, Conclusion); Composition / Over all look 25%.
