Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men. 19.3% of every 10,000 Filipino men suffer from prostate cancer. The prostate is located in the prostate gland, an organ located below the bladder. This type of cancer is hard to detect as it grows slowly; there may not be any symptoms in the early stages. However, in some cases, it can grow quickly and aggressively.

It is unclear what the causes of prostate cancer are, but it begins when the cells in the prostate become abnormal. Common symptoms include dysuria, or painful or difficulty in urination; blood in urine or sperm; and/or body pains. Consult your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms and make sure to have a check-up at least once a year.

There are many risk factors and complications that come with prostate cancer. Do not put off your doctor’s appointment and wait until the last minute; it is better to start earlier than later. Because medical organizations differ on their recommendations on screening, discuss with your doctor what the best option for you is. Take the proper steps for prevention in order to lower your risk of prostate cancer, which are outlined in the video.
