The country was rocked with the announcement that the whole of Luzon is placed under an enhanced community quarantine. It’s not yet full-on lockdown, but for most of us, it sure feels that way with the following guidelines.

Obviously, this affects a lot of people. We at Hello Lipa are severely affected as small business owners. Operations have been adjusted since we asked our staff to work from home. We can’t go out to feature restaurants. But we consider ourselves lucky as compared to those more affected.

We feel for them.

But what can we do but comply? This is especially true since it’s aimed to halt the spread of COVID-19.

Whether the government is doing a good job so far or not is for another discussion. For now, we’ll give you ideas on the things to do while we’re on an enhanced community quarantine.

Stay Tuned to the News

The quarantine is for a month but the government said that they’ll be monitoring and will provide updates daily. Now’s a good time to turn on the TV in order to stay updated with the news.

News are aplenty as well on social media. Just make sure that you’re following legitimate news outlets.

Make sure to stay updated on DOH news and updates as well.

Catch Up on Netflix

Hey, Kingdom just released a new season and it’s amazing!

Crash Landing On You is another popular series to catch up on.

There are a lot of shows and series to binge-watch on. Here are some personal recommendations:

  • Breaking Bad
  • Narcos
  • Suits
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Money Heist
  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine
  • The Blacklist
  • Better Call Saul

Get to Work!

Public and private companies (except those that provide necessary services) are ordered closed and/or employ a work from home system. For most people, this quarantine is not a vacation, unless you prefer a no work no pay setup.

You are still expected to work. Talk to your manager on what needs to be done.

Learn Something New

Now’s the time to upgrade your skills. There are a lot of free online classes that you can take. Even Ivy League schools are offering free online classes. YouTube is also a good resource.

Personally, I’m catching up on Udemy courses I’ve signed up for in the past. Now I have time to finish them.

Get a New Hobby

A lot of people have forgotten about their offline hobbies because of the Internet. Myself included. Now, you have more time to go back to your hobby or even pick up new ones.

Think of the so-called Triangle of Hobbies. It states that you should have 3 hobbies:

  • One that keeps you creative.
  • One that keeps you in shape.
  • One that makes you money.

Make Money

Money is going to be tight in the coming weeks. There are a lot of ways for you to make money thanks to the Internet. Here are some recommendations:

  • Do an online garage sale. Sell things that you don’t need anymore.
  • Take on freelancing projects. There are a lot of online platforms that allow you to do so. Just make sure to sign up for legit ones.

Whatever you do, don’t hoard necessities for the purpose of selling them at a way higher price. That’s not cool.

Explore Other Social Media Accounts

Set up a YouTube channel! It’s a good hobby to keep you creative and later on, it can even make you money.

PS: Click here to subscribe to my YouTube channel! Thanks!

Of course, we’re seeing a spike on TikTok usage. It seems that it’s the best thing to do right now.

Go on Twitter as well and follow legitimate news outlets to stay updated.

Now’s a good time to fix your LinkedIn account as well.

Eat!

Fortunately, delivery services are still allowed. We have foodpanda and ALA EHxpress Delivery Services in Lipa.

I have a feeling that a lot of people will be gaining weight (myself included) because of the quarantine.

We promise to go back to featuring restaurants as soon as this is over. For now, you can read our past features here.

Exercise

Now’s a good time to make good on your New Year’s Resolution to exercise. Hey self, I’m talking to you!

Clean and De-clutter

Look around your home. Now’s a good time to clean and de-clutter. As a bonus, you might find things that you can sell for extra money!

Pray

You don’t have to go to church to pray. You can pray in the comforts of your own home. Pray that the worst has passed. Pray for strength to go through this. Pray for guidance.

Spend Quality Time with Your Family

Take this chance to slow down and spend more quality time with the family. Do the things listed above together. Make the most out of the situation. You’re all in this together.

Stay Safe!

We’ll see you once this is all over. Stay safe with your family. We’re all in this together!
