I used to be a Hungry Hippo Lipa regular. I’ve never been to their restaurant before, but having bags upon bags of their burgers delivered to our home was a regular thing around 3 years ago. I remember loving their honest-to-goodness burgers. I even have a favorite order which is not on their regular menu. I used to always order cheeseburger with bacon AND egg. Of course, my delivery always came with their thick cut fries.
This is why I’ve really been wondering why it’s been a long time since I’ve had a Hungry Hippo burger. Fortunately, I was given a chance to try it again, this time at their restaurant for me to enjoy the whole experience.
Ah, the wonders of a love being rekindled again.
About Hungry Hippo Lipa
Hungry Hippo as a brand started in 1995. The Lipa franchise was put up on January 2008. This means that they’re a pioneer when it comes to burgers here in our city.
Fast forward to today, 10 years after, and the brand still has a strong presence here in our city. It was our first time to dine in at their restaurant because we always had our burgers delivered before, and we were pleasantly surprised at the number of people that dined in and left with a smile on their face.
Hungry Hippo Lipa is located at the CM Recto Avenue corner Katigbak Street. It’s hard to miss. Just look for the pink hippo in front of the Lipa City Cathedral.
It’s a cozy burger hub that sits about 20 to 25 people. You get this American diner vibe that adds to the whole burger-eating experience.
It also helps that the staff is very pleasant and attentive.
The Burgers of Hungry Hippo Lipa
You can’t go wrong with their Cheeseburger.
The patty is quite thick. It’s perfectly seared that gives you that amazing texture, while the insides remained medium well. Make sure to order one as a meal so you’ll get a side of their thick cut fries. Better yet, order an upgraded meal so you’ll get the seasoned fries.
The seasoned fries are so good that you’ll probably end up finishing it first before the burger.
Their bestseller is The Crossover.
It’s easy to see why this is their bestseller. It’s a cheeseburger that’s topped with extra crispy bacon. You can’t go wrong with their cheeseburger and you can’t go wrong with extra crispy bacon so this is a double win.
Again, order it upgraded with seasoned fries. But yeah, EXTRA CRISPY BACON.
Other Offerings
It’s always best to enjoy the burgers of Hungry Hippo with their other dishes. We tried the Cheesy Nachos.
Make sure to devour them before the chips get too soggy from all that delicious sauce and cheese!
We also enjoyed the Hippo Wings.
Burgers and wings are a winning combination, and the combination of Hungry Hippo burgers and wings is a runaway winner.
In the mood for rice? They also have rice meals! We tried the Tapang Taal breakfast meal.
The tapa is tender and tasty. This is a good meal to start your day.
